Thirty registered voters participated in the Princeton Citizen’s Caucus on March 11 at the Town Hall Annex. Nominations were made for the following offices: Board of Assessors, Timothy Hammond for one three-year term; Board of Light Commissioners, Phil Gott, one three-year term; Moderator, Harry Pape for a one-year term; Planning Board, Russell Mason and Thomas Sullivan for one three-year term each; Select Board, Karen Cruise one three-year term.
Eric Knowlton is running to fill the unexpired term that has one year left for the Wachusett Regional School District School Committee, and Dana Lorway pulled papers after the caucus and submitted them for the second school committee spot and will be on the ballot.
The Citizen’s Caucus is held annually following Massachusetts General Laws Chapter 53, Sections 117 and 118 to nominate candidates for the Town of Princeton Annual Town Election. Those nominated at the caucus automatically have their names placed on the May 10 Annual Town Election ballot.
“Attendance is important as you need 25 registered voters in attendance to meet quorum requirements,” said Town Clerk Nathan Boudreau.
Caucus Chair Lynne Grettum presided over the candidates’ nominations for the offices and Caucus Clerk Claire Golding recorded the official Caucus Certificate of Nomination.
“This year we provided desks for each attendee that were properly spaced out six feet apart,” Boudreau said. “Additionally, attendees were required to wear masks to attend, and the gymnasium was sanitized before and after the event.”
The Annual Town Election will be held on May 10 from 12 to 8 p.m. at Thomas Prince School gymnasium and the Annual Town Meeting will be held outdoors on May 15 at 10 a.m. Hand sanitizer and masks will be provided.
